Carbon monoxide (CO): the 'invisible killer' - you can't see or smell it but if you don't have your gas boiler serviced every year, you could unwittingly be filling your home with this deadly poison gas. Exposure to even relatively low levels of carbon monoxide can cause brain damage or death.

Carbon monoxide can be produced when a gas appliance has not been correctly installed or maintained, or if a chimney or flue has become blocked. When inhaled, it prevents absorption of oxygen in the blood and can ultimately result in asphyxiation.

Every year, around 30 people in Britain are killed as a result of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning, and hundreds have suffered health problems. There is also a danger of explosion if the gas supply is leaking. All this could be prevented.

By law, gas appliances in Paradigm properties must be checked at least once a year to ensure they are working safely. Our maintenance and repairs contractor is Gas Safe registered (the national watchdog for gas safety in the UK) to comply with legal requirements for testing. Always use a registered engineer to work on your gas appliances!

All our gas engineers are Gas Safe registered and carry a Gas Safety card with their own unique licence number, which shows the type of gas work they are qualified to do. You can ask to see this when the gas engineer calls to repair or service your gas appliances.

The Gas Safe register replaced Corgi to become the official stamp for gas safety on 1 April 2009. By law, only Gas Safe registered engineers are allowed to work on gas appliances.

The annual service and gas safety check carried out by the gas team is a legal requirement. Problems found have to be rectified before the gas engineer can issue the safety certificate. Paradigm monitor this process to ensure that we have checked every tenanted property every 12 months.

This year Paradigm has an excellent record for gas safety with 100% of properties with a current gas safety certificate. However, we are still having difficulties with some customers who do not allow us access to carry out the gas checks. We have taken court action to ensure these properties are safe.

Our aim is to complete 100% of gas checks with every customer confident in the knowledge that their gas appliances are safe to use.

We need your help to keep you and your neighbours safe, so when you get your gas service appointment you must keep it or contact us to re-arrange!

Annual gas servicing is a legal requirement and you must allow our contractor access to your home to carry out this inspection.

If you refuse access we may have to take legal action against you. If we have installed a mains electric smoke alarm, we will also test this annually to ensure it is working properly.
