Blow the whistle on housing cheats
Blow the whistle on housing cheats

Teants who sublet could face either two years in prison or a fine of up to £50,000 if the Government go ahead with plans to crack down on the subletting of social housing.

The Government believe there are upto 160,000 social homes unlawfully sublet across England. This plan would act as a deterrent. At the moment subletting is not a criminal offence and tenants who are caught can only be evicted for breaching their tenancy agreement.

Housing minister Grant Shapps commented "Tenancy cheats are taking advantage of a vital support system for some of the most vulnerable people in our society and getting away with a slap on the wrist while our waiting lists continue to grow. It’s time for these swindlers to pay the price. It would cost us billions of pounds to replace the huge number of unlawfully occupied social homes across the country."

Paradigm are committed to ensuring our properties are let to and occupied by people who are legitimately entitled to hold the tenancy. We will take action to recover possession of any property which is unlawfully occupied. We are also working with other social landlords and statutory agencies to detect fraud.

If you suspect tenancy fraud or subletting of a Paradigm property please report it to us by calling 0300 303 1010 and we will investigate.
