Resident check-ins with Customer and Neighbourhood Officers

Whether you’re facing challenges at home, feeling isolated, or struggling to settle in, your Customer and Neighbourhood Officer (CNO) can help. They will listen, offer advice, and connect you with the right help when you need it.

During a recent check-in, one resident shared that after marrying someone she met online, the relationship became emotionally and physically abusive. She later realised she had been a victim of forced marriage. After this was disclosed during a visit, her CNO arranged support to clear damaged furniture, made referrals to specialist services, including the Forced Marriage Unit and Freedom Charity, and made sure all the right safeguarding support was in place for her.

In another situation, just before Christmas, a new mum moved into her home with her baby, a mattress, a few bags of clothes that needed washing, and very little support around her. Although she initially tried to assure her CNO that she could manage alone, a follow-up visit gave her the chance to open up and explain that, while she was grateful for her new home, she felt isolated, and was unsure how she could make it a safe and liveable environment for her child with so few resources.

Within just a few days, her CNO had support arranged for furniture, white goods and food from local organisations and other residents in her community, helping her and her baby settle safely and comfortably in their new home. This has created a long-lasting impact on her life – she is now noticeably more confident, has engaged with the local children’s centre, and is completing a therapy course.
