We are thrilled to announce the latest milestone at St Michael’s Hurst in Bishop’s Stortford, where 125 brand-new affordable homes are being delivered in partnership with East Herts Council. These homes mark a major step forward in providing high-quality, affordable living options for local people in need of a home.
The development includes a mix of homes designed to suit a variety of needs. Nine flats and 116 two, three, and four-bedroom houses will soon be available. Of these, 73 homes will be rented at affordable rates for people on the council’s housing register, and 52 homes will be available for shared ownership.
The council and Paradigm are also taking the innovative step of both providing additional subsidy to significantly reduce the rents of the four-bedroom affordable rental homes at the site. This is all part our goal of providing more homes that are truly affordable for local people.
Customers will benefit from proximity to the recently opened Avanti Meadows primary school, which includes a nursery, as well as a retirement home nearby. The development also features a central green space with a children’s playground, offering families a safe and welcoming environment in which to thrive.
Megan Fielding, one of Paradigm’s new customers at Saint Michael’s Hurst, shared her experience: “Simply put, I love our new home. Dealing with Paradigm has been smooth and straightforward, and they’ve been responsive to any questions I’ve had. The community here is great. I have lovely neighbours and the environment is good for the kids as well. It’s a genuine pleasure to have such a nice house to live in with safe and friendly surroundings, and I’m looking forward to settling down here for years to come.”

Martyn Jones, Executive Director of Development for Paradigm, commented: “We’re really pleased to be providing yet more high-quality, affordable homes for those who need them in East Herts. The undeniable sense of community and the excellent quality of these homes set a standard we’re proud to achieve. We’ve taken 32 new affordable homes at St Michael’s Hurst this December, and with plans to bring 400 additional homes to East Herts in the next three years, we look forward to continuing this important work.”
The development is due for completion in late 2025, and we can’t wait to see more families move into their new homes. Together with East Herts Council, we are proud to play a part in addressing the growing need for affordable housing in the area and building a vibrant, sustainable future for Bishop’s Stortford.
