The end of a ten-year building project

Paradigm takes ownership of last set of homes at Brooklands in Milton Keynes

Paradigm this week celebrated the end of a 10-year project at the Brooklands estate in Broughton, Milton Keynes. Brooklands as a whole incorporates almost 2,400 homes at present, and 449 of those were bought by Paradigm offering local families homes for either shared ownership or affordable rent. The final set of Paradigm homes recently completed and are a mixture of one and two bed flats, all of which are for sale with shared ownership, and many of which are already reserved.

Paradigm was joined by two members of Milton Keynes Council: Broughton Ward Councillor Sam Crooks and Cabinet Member for Housing Councillor Ed Hume. For Sam in particular, this was a ‘full circle’ moment, as he also officially opened the first houses on the Brooklands estate 10 years ago.

Cllr Crooks reflected on the growth of Brooklands: “As the Ward Councillor for Broughton for the past three and a half decades, the event 10 years ago that saw me opening the first of these Brooklands houses doesn’t actually feel that long ago. That said, there are now thousands more people living in the area, many of whom have grown up in Milton Keynes and moved out on their own or with new families. It’s this generational growth that makes our area a genuine home for so many people.”

Martyn Jones, Executive Director, Development at Paradigm said, “While these handovers represent the end of our time at Brooklands, they more accurately represent the end of the beginning of our activity in Milton Keynes. We have almost 200 new homes being built over the next few years, both shared ownership and affordable rent, for example at Tattenhoe Park and Whitehouse – and we are actively considering other opportunities! One of the great things about building and owning homes in Milton Keynes is that the Council is so open to the developments and understands the need for housing so clearly. We’re looking forward to developing that relationship and more homes here over the next 10 years and beyond.”

Cllr Hume commented, “Our still new Labour government has made some significant housing promises for the coming years, and there’s no doubt Milton Keynes is going to play a significant part in making them a reality. There’s greater opportunity for developers and housing associations like Paradigm to continue to deliver a mix of much needed affordable tenures, be that more shared ownership homes like these we’re seeing today, including for Social Rent at the other end of the spectrum. As a starting point for home ownership, these shared ownership homes are proving exceptionally popular in Milton Keynes, as shown by how fast these new flats are being reserved. Not only is this a key part of our expected growth in the future, it’s also vital for overcoming the housing crisis as a whole.”
