Tower block at Lea Bridge House provides extra housing for homeless people in London

Posted on the 22nd January 2018

We are pleased that work has now been completed on the Tower block at our homeless hostel in London, Lea Bridge House in Leyton, and the rooms are ready for re-letting.

The first new residents started to move into the Tower last Thursday and the rooms will be gradually filled over the next two to three months.

New resident Michael Tesfay, who moved in on 19 January and had previously been living on the streets, said that he is so happy to finally have somewhere to stay.

Corinna Singam, Housing Team Leader at Lea Bridge said: “We are delighted to welcome our new residents. With the rooms in the Tower being available to let now, we will be providing much needed and good standard accommodation for homeless people in the area.”

Lea Bridge House provides accommodation for homeless single people aged 25 and above with low support needs. People are referred to Lea Bridge via their local authority or homeless charities.

The property is made up of the nine-storey tower block with 123 rooms, and two new wings (106 rooms), which were opened in April last year and funded by the Mayor of London. The rooms in the tower block share communal fully-fitted modern kitchens and bathrooms, whilst the newer rooms in the wings have their own ensuite showers and toilet cubicles.

The re-opening of the tower block will take the total number of rooms at Lea Bridge House to 229 and currently there are over 33 different nationalities living there!
