We are supporting Gas Safety Week 2018

We are proud to be supporting Gas Safety Week 2018. Keeping our customers safe in their homes and our employees safe at work is a key priority for us.

Gas Safety Week is an annual safety week to raise awareness of gas safety and the importance of taking care of your gas appliances. It is co-ordinated by Gas Safe Register, the official list of gas engineers who are legally allowed to work on gas.

Badly fitted and poorly serviced gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a highly poisonous gas that can kill quickly with no warning, as you can’t see it, taste it or smell it.

By law, gas appliances in Paradigm properties must be checked at least once a year to ensure they are working properly. However, we need your help to keep you safe. By taking care of your gas appliances properly you are taking care of your home and your family. Just follow these few simple checks:

  • Be available for your gas safety check appointment. Please make sure that you are at home for your annual gas safety check and contact us as soon as possible if you need to rearrange.
  • Check any gas appliances you own every year. Gas appliances such as cookers and fires should be cleaned and safety checked once a year and serviced regularly by a Gas Safe registered engineer to ensure they are in good working order. Set a reminder so you don’t forget at StayGasSafe.co.uk. It is not Paradigm’s responsibility to check tenant owned appliances but these will be visually checked at the time of the annual gas service.
  • Keep the area around the gas meter clear and accessible This is important as this is your main isolation point for turning off the gas in an emergency.
  • Know the six main symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning – headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse and loss of consciousness.
  • Have an audible carbon monoxide alarm. This will alert you if there is carbon monoxide in your home.

If you notice any of the following warning signs, you should contact us to get your appliance serviced right away:

  • The gas appliance is not working properly.
  • The appliance is burning with a lazy yellow flame rather than a crisp blue one.
  • You can see black marks/stains around the gas appliance.
  • The pilot light keeps going out.
  • There is increased condensation in the room.

All our gas engineers are Gas Safe registered and carry a Gas Safety ID card with their own unique license number at all times, which shows the type of gas work they are qualified to do. Access should not be given to anyone who is not able to show the card.
