Proud to provide home to key worker during lockdown

Posted on the 24th August 2020

We’re delighted that a shared ownership home in Chesham has provided one of our fantastic key workers with a safe and secure home as she continues to work as a nurse through the pandemic.

Eleanor, who has moved into a two-bedroom house in Chesham, was living with her parents in Oxfordshire and was worried she may have been putting them at risk of catching COVID-19 because of her job.

Her move was delayed by a few months because the solicitors had trouble finalising everything because of lockdown. Eleanor had found the house before it was even on the market through a shared ownership house search. She said: “I liked the property mainly because it’s nowhere near busy roads which was a priority for me because I have a cat Albus! It also has a much bigger garden that most new build houses – being end of terrace was also a bonus!

“Shared ownership was the only viable way for me to own a house. Potentially I could have afforded a one bedroom flat but that wouldn’t have been suitable with my cat. It has given me the opportunity to have my own house and garden.

“Living here has made such a difference to my quality of life. I have a much shorter commute to work which is a big plus. I have independence now which I had been craving.”

Eleanor’s new home has been a real boost for her during this challenging time. “My job changed entirely during the three months of lockdown. It was long, draining hours, emotionally and physically. Even now that things are ‘normalising’ work is not. Patients are coming to us sicker than they would have done before as they are waiting longer to seek help due to fears around COVID-19 and we are currently planning for winter pressures. Having said that, public support has been fantastic and the camaraderie among health care professionals has made a difficult time a little bit easier.”

We are proud that we have helped to support one of our fantastic key workers to find her dream home.
