Do you wear a hearing aid? Can you hear your smoke alarm without it?
This week is Deaf Awareness Week – a good time to remind residents with hearing difficulties how we might be able to support them in the home.
“We have a duty to keep our residents safe” says Peter Gannaway, Group Fire Safety Manager. “Many people are fine during the day but remove hearing aids at night meaning they may not be able to hear a smoke alarm going off.
“If this affects you, or someone, you know, please get in touch so we can discuss how we can help.”
We may be able to install other devices such as flashing lights and vibrating pads in your pillow, which are attached to your smoke alarm.
“We would urge everyone who wears a hearing aid to take it out, test their smoke alarm and check whether they can hear it when lying in bed” adds Peter. “if not, please call us and we will discuss how we can help.”
