Matthew Bailes take on new role as Chair of CASE

Posted on the 20th June 2022

Matthew Bailes, Chief Executive of Paradigm Housing Group, has taken on the role of Chair of CASE – the Consortium for Housing Associations in the south east.

Matthew succeeds Elizabeth Austerberry, previously Chief Executive of Moat Homes, who had been Chair of the Group since 2017.

Between them, CASE members own and manage over 450,000 homes predominantly in London and the south of England. Of these, around 135,000 are affordable homes in the south east region of England, out of a total of just over 400,000 housing association homes in the region.

CASE members are also substantial developers, typically building 3,000 new homes in the south east each year, of which the vast majority are affordable homes for rent or shared ownership.

Matthew Bailes said: “We are a major force for the provision of new affordable housing in the south east, and own and manage a third of the total of housing association homes in the region.

“Collectively, we make significant investments which increase housing supply in the region, deliver safe and well-maintained homes for our residents and make substantial contributions to local economic activity and employment through our work.

“The south east has particular challenges, one of the most significant being that house price affordability has declined at a greater rate in these regions in recent years than anywhere else in the UK.

“Over the coming year, we will be doing more to make the case for solutions to provide more affordable homes for more people across the region, and to show how we can continue to play our part in supporting the communities and neighbourhoods across the south east.”
