Preventing homelessness in Hertfordshire

Posted on the 11th April 2023

We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with Herts Young Homeless, a charity dedicated to preventing homelessness in Hertfordshire. Starting in April, we will be working with them to run a programme out of The Foyer that offers free, preventative crisis services for young adults and teenagers.

At its core, the programme is designed to help those who are struggling with mental health issues, drug and alcohol problems, and other challenges that can lead to homelessness. Through a range of services, including practical advice and support, family mediation, floating support, health services, and education, the programme aims to find permanent accommodation for customers and prevent them from becoming homeless again.

One of the key components of the programme is the Homeless Hub and 18+ Hub, which offers practical telephone advice, information, and support for those who are at risk of homelessness or already experiencing it. This service is crucial in ensuring that people have access to the resources they need to stay off the streets and find a safe and secure place to live.

Another service offered through the programme is Future Roots, a transitional home where young people at risk of homelessness can receive support in a nurturing environment. This 6-bedroom home is designed to help young people build the skills they need to live independently and avoid becoming homeless in the future.

Nancy Watson, Foyer Team Leader, said “We are really looking forward to the mental health service being delivered at the Foyer, this will support many of our young people who are transitioning from child to adolescent services and those who need additional support to access mental health services. Having an allocated worker to focus on mental means that our existing staff team can focus on housing management and other areas of independent living skills programme.”

We are proud to be working with Herts Young Homeless on this important initiative, and we believe that our partnership will make a real difference in the lives of our customers. Together, we can help prevent homelessness in Hertfordshire and create a brighter future for young people in our community.
