Your survey

One of our Gas Safe Qualified Engineers will need to do a quick survey to inspect your current boiler set-up. The engineer will tell you where your new boiler will be located and if any new radiators will be needed. They will also let you know the type of boiler being installed ie: combination boiler or conventional boiler with a hot water cylinder.

We will also let you know if we come across any potential hazards, risks or difficulties and if there is anything you need to do. For example, and where necessary:

• Personal belongings and furniture to be moved from the area where work will be carried out
• Airing cupboard to be emptied
• Carpet or laminate flooring lifted.

The above will help the installation be completed quicker, with less disruption to your home.

Did you know?

Your installation will take between two and five days depending on the work needed. We will try to minimise the length of time you are without heating and hot water, and we can provide fan heaters if you need them.

The schedule

• Days one and two –remove your old boiler and install the new one
• Day three – remove your old hot water cylinder and install the new one
• Day four – fit new radiators and thermostatic radiator valves
• Day five – flush, commission and demonstrate the new controls and how to use them efficiently.
  
  Once completed, a Quality Control Inspector may contact you to arrange a visit to inspect the work.

Setting your boiler correctly

Your new boiler has a temperature control dial. We recommend that you set your temperature between 65  – 70 degrees if it’s digital or around the two o’clock mark if it’s a dial.

Setting your room thermostat correctly

There’s a common misconception that turning your thermostat up higher will make the heating warm up faster – sadly, this isn’t the case. What the thermostat does is measure the temperature of the room it’s in, and once the chosen temperature has been reached, it tells the boiler to stop sending hot water to the radiators. The boiler will only start sending hot water to the radiators again when the temperature within the room drops below the chosen temperature.

Using the thermostatic radiator valves

There’s another misconception that the thermostatic radiator valve works by the higher you set the number the hotter the radiator will be. This is not the case.

Thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) are an easy and inexpensive way to separately control the air temperature of individual rooms in your home. The main benefit of the valves is that they automatically give you room temperature control, and they help you heat your property more efficiently, which saves you money on your heating bills – IF you set them up in the right way.

This is a rough guide to the room temperatures indicated by the number on the thermostatic valve. 0 = Off, * = 7C, 1 = 10c, 2 = 15c, 3 = 20c, 4 = 25c, 5 = 30c.
